Colour

Cool & Warm Colours

This is a big one! Colour can make a huge difference to the impression you create. It needs to be appropriate to your environment, but that doesn’t mean it needs to be boring.
Black and a very light colour including white is a very authoritative combination and can cause others to become defensive if not worn with care. However if you combine black with a more striking colour (if your skin tone allows this – it can overwhelm some people) it becomes interesting, whilst still being powerful.
A more approachable business colour is navy, especially when combined with a medium strength pastel. This encourages good communication.
Red is a great colour to draw attention and can look dynamic worn the the right way. If you have a strong natural personality, wear red in small quantities.
Take care with colours such as lime green, orange or yellow as they can be perceived as frivolous in the workplace. If you love these colours and they express your personality, consider adding them in small doses or in your accessories as you can remove these easily if you need to quickly change your look.

Confidence

ConfidenceKnowing your style and the colours that work for you can add to your personal confidence. If you know you look good you can forget about what you are wearing and concentrate on doing what you do best!

Comfort

In the context of clothes which compliment who you are, this is important. However, don’t let comfort become sloppy as comfort over style can cause you to fall short when making a strong positive impact.

Personal Branding – Your Emotional Finger Print

Your Personal Brand is the emotional finger print you leave on others!

When you are not in the room what do others say about you? What impact have you made on them? What is their perception of you?

What is a personal brand? – It is about how you present yourself in your posture, your body language, your facial expressions, your clothes and the accessories you wear as well as your attitude and communication. It is the ‘Real You’ that you want the world to see and to buy into.

Successful personal branding is about firstly knowing who you are and how you want to be seen, either as the owner of your own business or as a key member of the organisation where you work.  It is then  about effectively controlling and influencing how others see you and think about you. Everyone has a personal brand, however most people do not clearly understand what this is and how important it is for them in today’s world of social media and tough employment markets.  Your brand is more than just marketing and promoting yourself,  it needs to be about the whole you!

Your personal brand is about :

1.   Being authentic – having good self-awareness – drawing on your strengths and values

2.   Knowing what you want to achieve – having a clear vision

3.   Presenting yourself in a conscious, coherent and consistent manner – it needs to fit together and make sense!

In the current environment it is becoming more and more important to have that extra edge, your unique personal branding can be make that difference.

As Dr Hubert Rampersad says in his paper on Authentic Personal Branding ‘ It is therefore important to be your own brand and to become the CEO of your life’
